  • The first Asian athlete to win the gold medal in fencing (1984 Summer Olympics, LA)

  • Four times Olympian:1984, 1988, 2000, 2008

  • At the age of 50, Luan represented Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

  • Coaching accomplishments:

    • Hundreds of medals at National and international competitions 

    • Dozens of students selected into national teams

    • Over 40 students were recruited by Ivy-League university varsities.

  • Honored by FIE (International Fencing Federation), and included in the FIE Hall of Fame

  • 2-time Olympic sabre fencer; worldly ranked top 8 for both individuals and teams

  • 1 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals at World Fencing Championships and World Cups

  • Coaching accomplishments:

    • over 200 medals at NAC, Junior US Olympics, US National/ Junior World/ NCAA Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games

  • One student selected into US Olympic Fencing team, two students reached top-10 in world rankings
